MINT FIELD NATURAL

Sedated krautrock band Mint Field hail from Mexico City. They explore the nostalgia and melancholy of everyday life with driving bass lines, psychedelic guitar and heavily reverberated vocal sighs. They already have an album and an EP under their belt, which are worth exploring, along with a handful of singles. To celebrate their signing to Felte Records, Mint Field have dropped a fresh single 'Natural' that comes alongside a minimal and cinematic video that explores shadow and natural light. For this single, the band team up with guest collaborators Cathy Lucas of Vanishing Twin and Nathan Pigott to add violin, strings and saxophone to the track, which was produced by Syd Kemp of Ulrika Spacek. 'Natural' uses plucked guitar, paired with additional layers which add an unconventional eeriness. The female vocals (sung in Spanish) feel as if they've been abandoned in a desolate country house: strung out and occasionally entering melodies that are disconcerting. The song's mood switches between calm and intense with the electronic guitar's dreamy psychedelia, which turns into fuzzed out notes and toms that diverge into cymbal hits that will wake the owls from their daytime slumber. -Ellie Rose-Davies
